Alex Ekwueme Mission

Nigeria and indeed African nations has been been affected by wars, internal armed conflicts, ethnic and religious strife, religious extremism, terrorism and threats of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The threats of infectious diseases including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV and AIDS) has been at all time high.

All these continue to pose significant challenges to the peace and economic development of a continent already struggling with significant natural disasters including famine, tropical disease epidemic and deforestation.

The poverty, human suffering, displacement of vulnerable persons, destabilization of societies, and threats to security resulting from these conflicts make effective forms of managing conflict imperative.

The Alex Ekwueme Mission is dedicated to meeting this imperative in new and innovative ways

The Mission is a specialised initiative of Alex Ekwueme Foundation. It has three main areas of interest

Alex Ekwueme Cancer Initiative

The ultimate purpose this Initiative is the reduction of the incidence and mortality of end stages of cervical cancer among women in Nigeria. To achieve this, the Initiative would:

  1. Establish a nationwide screening programme for cervical cancer in Nigeria
  2. Facilitate a national cancer prevention and treatment programme in Nigeria through the establishment of Cancer Support and Treatment Centres in all the thirty six (36) states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
  3. Raise awareness of the magnitude of the cancer burden in Nigeria through high-profile public health campaign on prevention, detection and treatment of cancer in Nigeria

Alex Ekwueme Peace Mission:

  1. Prevent and resolve violent national and international conflicts In Africa
  2. Promote post-conflict stability and democratic transformations
  3. Increase capacity for peace through exploration of peace building tools, capacity, and intellectual capital worldwide

The Peace Mission works through sending Emissaries to Countries involved in violent conflict to broker seize fire agreement. We also monitor the implementation of peace agreement.
