The guiding principles of the work of Alex Ekwueme Foundation includes:

Provision of consultancy on conflict management and resolution techniques, including mediation and negotiation skills, to government and military personnel, civil society leaders, and the staff of non-governmental and international organizations.

Provide education and public enlightenment about the principles of democracy, rule of law and good governance as a panacea for peace and prosperity.

Inform the media and the public about the nature of the current international conflicts, and approaches to their prevention, management, and resolution through a wide range of materials, publications and events

Promote scientific research about conflicts from African perspective

Promote national intergration in
Nigeria through the development of interstate collaboration in areas of youth development, social justice, and poverty eradication.
This is the first Institute of its kind in Africa.

The Institute shall be set up in Abuja Nigeria

It would conduct and coordinate training and research into peace in Africa

The institute shall train scholars who would become Ekwueme Peace Fellows.

It would endow professorial chairs in Universities and Colleges for the promotion and advancement of peace.

The Insitute shall collaborate with other establishments of its kinds and other organisations and charities sharing its objectives in finding lasting peace for Africa

While the primary focus of the Institute shall be Africa; it shall work with global partners regardless of the racial, ethnic, political or religious background.
The main principle for the AEIP would be to sensitise ordinary people on the need for peace. The programs on peace research and direct work for peace would be concentrated on those nations currently engaged in armed conflicts. The institute shall also work with nations emerging from conflict in finding lasting solution to peace and prosperity.
African nations has been been affected by wars, internal armed conflicts, ethnic and religious strife, religious extremism, terrorism and threats of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
All these continue to pose significant challenges to the peace and economic development of a continent already struggling with significant natural disasters including famine, tropical disease epidemic and deforestation.
The poverty, human suffering, displacement of vulnerable persons, destabilization of societies, and threats to security resulting from these conflicts make effective forms of managing conflict imperative.
The African Peace Mission is dedicated to meeting this imperative in new and innovative ways
The African Peace Mission is a specialised initiative of Alex Ekwueme Foundation. Its mission is to help:
- Prevent and resolve violent national and international conflicts In Africa
- Promote post-conflict stability and democratic transformations
- Increase capacity for peace through exploration of peace building tools, capacity, and intellectual capital worldwide
African Peace Mission does this by sending Emissaries to Countries involved in violent conflict to broker seize fire agreement. We also monitor the implementation of peace agreement.
- The Foundation shall organise a Biennial Summit of all organisations and Groups working for Peace in Africa.
- The Summit would bring together all international organisations, charities, government agencies and civil society organisations working for Peace in Africa.
- The Summit shall become the focus for articulation of ideas towards peaceful resolution of conflicts in Africa.
The Summit would also analyse efforts by nations and communities coming out of conflict.
