HOW WE ALL CAN HELP

There are many ways in which individuals and organisation can help in promoting the activities of Alex Ekwueme Foundation.

Many corporate establishments or charitable foundations choose to make a straightforward corporate donation to the Foundation.

We work closely with such partners to decide how to use the funds and the level of publicity to be given to the donation.

Other ways to help

Donate to a specific appeal
Individuals and organisations can donate to a specific campaign or areas of our work such as the DAB Funds (this is a specialised Fund within the Foundation specifically for the promotion of DAB).

Alex Ekwueme Foundation work closely with such partners to decide how to use the funds either for the purchase of books or for the distribution of existing books within schools. The Foundation also publicises such donations from corporate bodies.

Donate from your salary
Stable and sustained funding is required for us to make a lasting difference in the lives of the people benefitting from our projects. Individuals can make regular payments from their salaries towards the activities or specific projects of Alex Ekwueme Foundation. You can set up a direct debit or standing orders from your account or regular payments using the Visa or MasterCard.

TAKE ACTION WITH DAB

The campaign for access to quality education is at the heart of our work with the ‘Donate a Book’ (DAB) initiative.

The obstacles to achieving this Millennium Development Goal is far more than one organisation can surmount.

This is why your individual support is crucial.

It is with the help of groups of individual working jointly and severally that we can make the required impact and hope for a change.

1. Share the vision: Tens or thousands of people do not know about the acute shortage of books in Africa. There are books lying about in most households even in deprived homes. If you share our vision, please let people within your network know about DAB and what we do. You can spread the news by sending emails to all the people within your contact, or via facebook, twitter, MySpace and other social networking sites. Encourage them to think about donating a book.

2. Collect a book: You can go further by becoming our volunteer and acting as a receiver for the books within your area. Please fill out the volunteer application form (Click here) or contact our volunteer office via email volunteer@alexekwueme.org

3. Raise Funds for DAB: You could create a personal fundraising / book collection web page (click here) to start raising funds and collecting books for DAB. There are templates for all sorts of personal events like birthdays, anniversaries and in memoriam. There is also a template for you to design and customise your events. Please note that, once you have created a fundraising/ book collecton page, it will be checked and authenticated by AEF-DAB team before it becomes a live web page. This process will take no more than 2 working days.

4. Host a DAB event: If you are passionate about our work and wish to organise a specific DAB event. Please contact us to register your event. You can also organise some of the specific events for which we have laid down

5. Join the campaign team: You can start a discussion in your website or blog about DAB. You can invite responses and comments about all aspects of the DAB campaign and feed this back to us. You can also subscribe to receive our campaign newsletters and other publications. (click here to subscribe to campaign update)

6. If you are a student: You can start a DAB group within your campus where none existed or join an existing group. You only need another student sharing your vision to start the group. Please contact us for details. You can also start organising DAB events within your campus hall of residence and departments. You can also share the vision via campus handbooks, posters and handbills. Please contact us for more information.

7. For community or faith based organisations: You can organise any sort of event for fundraising and book collection. Some suggestions includes: raffle draws, fun run, quiz, garden parties or picnics, marathon, sponsored moustache grow, theme evening (local/ international dressing or cooking), mountain climbing, coffee morning, book fair etc. There is no limit to the number or types of events that can be organised to raise funds or collect books for DAB. If you would like to discuss any of your ideas with us, please contact helpdesk@alexekwueme.org or complete and return an event form.
