Resolving Kidnapping, Hostage Taking and Local Terrorism in Nigeria

The Alex Ekwueme Foundation was established to promote the ideals, values and principles of Dr. Alex Ekwueme. The Foundation aims to ensure that such ideals as honesty, fostering peace, compromise, transparency in public service, and respect for democratic principles are secured in perpetuity.

The Foundation is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria as a non governmental organisation promoting peace, social justice and good governance.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of distinguished Nigeria under the chairmanship of Ambassador Dr M T Mbu.

Summit Overview

Since the mid-1990s, incidents of terrorist kidnapping and hostage-taking in Nigeria have grown enormously causing significant safety and security concerns for many Nigerians and alien residents in the country.In Nigeria, many hostage-taking and kidnapping operations have been targeted at foreigners, especially those working in the high-risk Niger Delta region of the country.

Also, criminally motivated kidnapping and hostage-taking for ransom purposes have been on the rise in the nation’s commercial city of Lagos and other major cities across the country.It is has therefore become imperative for all stakeholders (i.e. people and organisations involved in dealing with kidnapping and hostage-taking in Nigeria) to come together and find a sustainable solution to this growing problem.

It is in the light of this that the Alex Ekwueme Foundation is proud to announce the first international summit on “Resolving Kidnapping, Hostage Taking and Local Terrorism in Nigeria”.

Resolving Kidnapping, Hostage Taking and Local Terrorism in Nigeria summit has been specially designed to enable government agencies, multinational organisations and high-risk individuals find lasting solution to the burgeoning problem of Hostage taking and kidnapping in Nigeria.
